Women in Sport Leadership Networking Event
Sligo Sports Partnership host their inaugural Women in Sport Leadership Networking Event
Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership (SSRP) were thrilled to host their inaugural Women in Sport Leadership Networking event on Thursday, 19th November, at the National Surf Centre. This milestone event brought together participants from the last three Women in Sport Leadership Courses, creating a dynamic gathering of inspirational female leaders from local sports clubs across Sligo.
The evening was expertly facilitated by Lisa Clancy, an experienced consultant with a wealth of experience at the highest levels of Irish sport. Lisa, who also serves as Vice President of Paralympics Ireland, guided the discussions, building on the leadership skills gained by participants during the course. Key topics included the importance of networking, overcoming challenges, and managing conflict. The event also highlighted the significance of fostering a strong, supportive network of women leaders in Sligo’s sporting community.
The primary objective of this network is to provide ongoing support to participants, helping them build meaningful relationships, enhance communication skills, and leverage these connections for both personal and professional growth. By learning from each other’s experiences, participants can increase their confidence, develop leadership skills, and strengthen their roles within their respective clubs.
A special highlight of the evening was guest speaker Hannah Craig, Ireland’s first female Olympic finalist in canoeing, who recently relocated to Sligo. With a remarkable career spanning 20 years, during which she balanced elite competition with raising two children, Hannah brings a wealth of experience as an athlete, coach, and mentor. Hannah’s message of perseverance, combined with her role as Sport Ireland’s Women in Sport Manager, motivated the women to embrace their own potential, whether in sport or beyond.
SSRP was delighted to bring together such an inspiring group of women, creating a platform for meaningful discussions and the continued development of leadership in Sligo’s sports community.
The Women in Sport Leadership Course offers female volunteers in Sligo the opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain confidence, and build networks in the sporting community. With a mix of online and in-person sessions, participants will explore topics like crisis management, effective communication, and personal branding. Those interested should visit SSRP Website for updates on the next course, which will be announced in early 2025.
